Workshop locations: Chicago Botanical Gardens and the Private Residence of Jan Fayhee in Kenilworth, IL. Access to the Gardens and parking for both locations included for participating artists.

GOOD FOR: Appropriate for all levels of experience with plein air painting and drawing. Participating artists will receive as much support as they need to utilize the full opportunity of the 3-day workshop.
Please note: Due to the private residency, this is an invitation only workshop.
Workshop description: A 3-day summer workshop exploring the possibilities of painting and drawing outdoors. Artists are encouraged to work in the medium(s) of their choice, including photography. DAY 1: Monday, June 6, 2016, 10:30 AM- 4:30 PM--INTRODUCTIONS AND AN AFTERNOON AT THE BOTANICAL GARDENS
Potluck brunch with introductions at Jan Fayhee's home in Kenilworth, IL, 25 min NE from The Art House. Address and directions available post-registration. Bring all supplies needed to paint and/or draw outdoors, possibly including a lawn chair, portable easel, foldable table for palette/supplies. Drawing boards, seating and limited easels are available on-site. A list of items to choose from for contributing to each day's potluck will also be sent post-registration.
Following a shared brunch, we will carpool the short distance from Jan Fayhee's home to the Chicago Botanical Gardens. Participating artists will have access to the gardens as part of the workshop and for no additional fee. We will work smaller scale on this first afternoon and artists are encouraged to do 2-3 drawings/paintings in color on primed or unprimed Rives BFK clipped to a sketchbook or small drawing board. We will share these works with the group during the final critique on Day 3. We will carpool back to Jan's at 4:00 PM. Artists will have studio space to store supplies, etc on-site.
DAY 2, June 7, 2016, 10:30 AM- 4:30 PM--RESIDENTIAL GARDEN PAINTING
Light breakfast and potluck lunch at Jan Fayhee's home. Front, side and rear garden grounds feature a wide range of plants, trees and flowers, with options for painting/drawing on the grass or patio. Outdoor tables/seating, a fountain, soft seating for the lawns with lunch/restroom facilities and indoor painting options available. Artists are encouraged to work slightly larger scale and work on developing 1-2 pieces over the final two days of the workshop. Artists will have studio space to store works in progress, supplies, etc on-site.
DAY 3, June 8, 2016, 10:30 AM- 4:30 PM--RESIDENTIAL GARDEN PAINTING & GROUP CRITIQUE
Light breakfast and potluck lunch at Jan Fayhee's home. Front, side and rear garden grounds feature a wide range of plants, trees and flowers, with options for painting/drawing on the grass or patio. Outdoor tables/seating, a fountain, soft seating for the lawns with lunch/restroom facilities and indoor painting options available. Artists will have the opportunity to resolve painting/drawing(s) begun on Day 2 of workshop. A supportive and insightful group critique will follow lunch, including discussion about utilizing subject matter/reference material/outdoor art-making approaches in one's work upon returning to the studio.
